Do you remember the game The Simpsons: Bart’s Nightmare? It had a level or minigame or whatever where you played as a Bart Simpson Godzilla mashup. Basically Godzilla with Bart’s head. You moved left to right destroying as much as you could. It was a game from the ye olde 16 bit era.

Anyway, I always wanted an entire game of that as a kid but more fleshed out. I hated the minigame until I figured it out. If you played it back in the day you’re probably (hopefully) nodding right now. But if managed to get good at it, you wanted more, right?

Gigapocalypse is that game. Sort of. They even look similar. You move left to right. You cause destruction as one of nine ‘Gigas’, and you even get to allocate points in skill trees. PLUS(!), there’s a heavy metal soundtrack.

Here’s a bit of the bio:

Start your destruction spree and destroy everything on your way through different beautifully detailed pixel style locations. Ever wondered how it looks like when a giant monster destroys a wild west town? Or clashing against the brave Knights Templar? Gigapocalypse has the answer. But beware: Nasty soldiers, wizards, drones and mechs will do everything to stop you! With each try your Giga will become more powerful until you will finally make it to the diversified, epic boss fights that await you at the end of each level.

It’s kind of in my pile of unplayed games since I never finished it. Does that qualify? Let me know in Discord.

Here’s the labor of love quote from the developer that, to me, always reveals this was a passion project:

Gigapocalypse is loud, punk, metal, anarchy and a lovely homage to the game and movie classics. It´s a game for the kid in all of us.

It’s only $9.99 and is a great pick up and play game for when you’re feeling good or need to exercise some of your ‘frustrations with humanity’ demons. We’ve all got those…
